What CDE data entry involves
A common data environment (CDE) is only as good as the data inside it. Projects routinely hold backlogs of documents that were never uploaded, files uploaded with inconsistent names, and exports from old systems with stripped metadata. The golden thread and handover packs need the CDE populated properly.
We do that work at volume: uploading, renaming to a consistent convention, assigning statuses, populating metadata and indexing, all inside the CDE your team already uses.
Scope of the work
- Backlog uploads - documents uploaded into the right folders with correct naming
- ISO 19650 naming - files renamed to the project convention (project, originator, volume, level, type, role, number)
- Status and revision - suitability codes applied, revisions reconciled, superseded files archived
- Metadata population - dates, titles, disciplines and attributes completed per file
- Migration and cleanses - records moved between systems or re-structured without losing context
- Index and verification - a register of what is in the CDE, with spot-checked accuracy

Questions, answered
Which CDEs do you work with?
We work inside Asite, Autodesk Construction Cloud (including BIM 360), Viewpoint, ProjectWise and Trimble Connect, and other platforms. Where direct access is not possible, we work through controlled exports and re-imports to the same standard.
Do you enter data from paper documents too?
Yes. Paper and scans are digitised and indexed first (see construction document digitisation), then uploaded and structured in the CDE as part of the same engagement.
Can you fix a CDE that is already a mess?
Yes, that is most of our work. We audit what is in there, reconcile naming and statuses, archive superseded versions and rebuild the structure, then keep the register so the state is visible.
Is ISO 19650 naming mandatory for this work?
No, but it is the standard most UK projects use, and it is what we apply unless your project has its own convention. What matters is consistency, and we follow your convention if you have one.
How do you handle confidential project data?
Under UK GDPR and DPA 2018, kept secure and access-controlled, no third-party sharing, vetted staff under NDAs, and we sign your data processing agreement. Direct CDE access is read/write only within the scope you authorise.
